Many new cars have the 'convenience' remote fobs so we no longer need to unlock the doors with a key. It is, however, an extremely good idea to lubricate the door and trunk/hatch locks occasionally and verify that your key still works.
When left unused, especially in areas of the country where we're covered in snow -and salt- for extended periods, the locks on the outside of the car will tend to sieze up. You'll be glad they're operational, though, if you ever pop a fuse and need to unlock it like we did in the old days.
